Covering versus removal, both approaches have pros and cons. Covering Artex with a mechanical key and finish skim is quicker, reduces dust and keeps cornices intact. Full removal is messier and may reveal lath, old plaster or lippage that needs repair. I advise on the best route for each room based on condition and client priorities.
Preparation is everything. Careful levelling, priming and allowing proper drying between coats gives a long-lasting, paint-ready surface. I use tried-and-tested skim techniques suited to older solid-walled properties and modern plasterboard, and I always leave the space swept and protected for decorators.
